The city's biggest annual festival
For over 30 years, the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival has been the biggest annual arts and entertainment festival in the city of Virginia Beach. Initially created as an end-of-the-season celebration for residents, it's also become an attraction for tourists during the "shoulder season". The Neptune Festival organization now hosts a series throughout the year.
This year’s Neptune festivities - the 35th celebration - kick-off in the spring, and the fun continues with a myriad of events and activities leading up to and throughout the month of September. The festival’s grand finale is “Boardwalk Weekend,” Friday, Sept. 26th through Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, when three spectacular days and nights overflow with activities ranging from sporting events, a grand parade and a sand sculpting competition to a boardwalk art and craft show, fireworks and live musical entertainment enticing residents and visitors from across the mid-Atlantic to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk.
